In this course you will learn to swim breaststroke fast! You do this by optimising the propulsion of the pull and kick. Of all strokes, breaststroke is technically the most challenging stroke. We focus on reducing drag so you will more efficient, and therefore swim faster.
Breaststroke is technically the most challenging stroke because it is a very ‘timing sensitive’ stroke. It's all about rhythm and timing. Large fluctuations in velocity caused by the recovery phase of the legs makes it a hard stroke to swim. Propulsion comes from the kick and the pull that occur separately.
What to expect?
This course is 5 weeks with a total of 10 workouts, 2 each week. We will focus on the different elements of the breaststroke by using specific drills to improve this. We will work on the breaststroke kick, the breaststroke pull, the timing of the breaststroke and on the full stroke.
How does it work?
Each week you follow 2 instruction videos with technique exercises that will help you improve your breaststroke, and swim it faster. In the first two weeks we will focus on improving the strength of your kick. Most of the propulsion comes from your kick, so this is an important part of the stroke. In the third week we will work on the combination between the pull and kick. In the fourth week we will work on strengthening your breaststroke pull. In the last week we work on the timing of your kick and pull and on the full stroke.
After watching an instruction video you can practice this exercise in a pool near you. When you have completed the exercise you can finish your swim with a body conditioning workout that is included in every step. This way you improve your technique, endurance and strength all in one workout.
Training Equipment: We advise you to use the following training equipment: a kick board and pull buoy (both floating devices), a snorkel and fins.

I started with SwimGym coaching as a complete novice. To be honest, I barely floated. Within weeks my skills improved and within months I made my way into the mid-level and ultimately to the pro’s. The perfect combination of technique training and a total body workout.
I started with SwimGym training courses after I got my swimming diploma, so I was a real novice. In a year and a half, I have advanced to the mid-level, completed a 1500m open water race and realised my dream of learning how to kitesurf, all thanks to the swimming foundation laid by SwimGym.
